About Badrinath Dham Yatra

Present in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India, Badrinath Dham holds a special place in the hearts of numerous Hindus. This serene temple is located amidst the awe-inspiring Himalayan mountains and is dedicated to Lord Badrinath, considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Towering at an impressive altitude of 3,133 meters (10,279 feet), Badrinath Temple boasts a history that spans millennia. The origins of Badrinath can be traced back to the revered sage Adi Shankaracharya, who is credited with discovering the idol of Lord Badrinath in the Alaknanda River and installing it in the temple.

Brahma Kapal serves as a sacred platform for performing rituals, paying homage to departed souls, and making offerings to ancestors during the Shraddha ceremonies. Brahma Kapal is steeped in mythology as it is connected to the story of Lord Shiva's quest for redemption after killing Brahma, and it is where Brahma's severed head fell from Shiva's trident (Trishul). It is positioned at a mere 100 meters north of the Badrinath Temple.

Srinagar

Srinagar is a charming town nestled on the banks of the Alaknanda River. It offers breathtaking views of the river and the picturesque hills surrounding it. Additionally, Srinagar is known for its educational institutions. It is positioned 35 kilometres away from Devprayag.

Charanpaduka

Charanpaduka is believed to bear the footprints of Lord Vishnu. According to Hindu mythology, Lord Sri Krishna advised his minister Uddhav to take Charan Paduka to Badrinath to seek forgiveness for his wrongdoing. To reach Charanpaduka, visitors embark on a 3 km trek from Badrinath, which takes approximately 1.5 hours and is an integral part of the spiritual journey to Badrinath. It is located 3 km from Badrinath in Uttarakhand.

What should I pack for the yatra?

Necessities include warm clothes, rain clothes, comfortable trekking shoes, first aid kits and necessary medicines. Have a valid ID (Aadhar card, voter ID card) with you.

Is Char Dham registration a compulsory document required to visit any of the Dhams, and how can I obtain it?

The support team primarily facilitates online registration whenever possible for Char Dham Yatra. In cases where online registration is not possible, the support team will arrange offline registration on-site.

What are some interesting places to visit near Badrinath besides the temple?

Near Badrinath Temple, explore:
Tapt Kund: A natural hot spring at the entrance of the temple with spiritual and medicinal significance. Pilgrims immerse themselves in 45°C before visiting the temple.
Brahma Kapal: A sacred platform 100 meters north of the temple for rituals, offerings to the ancestors and granting salvation to departed souls.
Charanpaduka: A place 3 km from Badrinath with footprints of Lord Vishnu, believed to cure diseases. Mandatory 1.5-hour trek on the spiritual path.
